Gloria Steinem spent more than 60 years as one of the most prominent voices in the fight for women’s rights.

She launched herself into the mainstream in the 1960s with an expose of New York City’s Playboy Club, documenting the harsh conditions she faced working undercover as a Playboy Bunny.

A powerful and outspoken campaigner at a time of routine discrimination, Steinem faced sexist criticism and harassment from men throughout her long career.

Her lifelong battle saw many victories, including the US Supreme Court’s 1973 Roe v Wade decision that guaranteed a woman’s right to an abortion.
